What is the difference between HB, B and 2B?: Hi Sarah, this is a great question! The difference between these leads are the hardness and darkness. HB is your classic #2 pencil used in school, known for its light gray writing, great for casual sketching and writing. B is a darker and softer lead, producing dark lines, great for bold writing and drawing. 2B is a darker and softer lead than B, great for adding depth to sketches through shading as well as bold writing.
